Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the ZenLeaf Direct help center. Here you’ll find answers to common questions about our Yixing teapots, tea selection, shipping, and care instructions.

🍵 About Our Teapots & Authenticity

Q: Are your teapots really handmade?
A: Yes, absolutely. We partner directly with masters in Yixing. Every teapot in our "Master Collection" is 100% hand-shaped using traditional techniques (slab building or coiling), not cast in molds. Each piece comes with a certificate of authenticity and often bears the master’s seal or signature.
Q: What makes Yixing Zisha clay special?
A: Yixing clay (Zisha) is unique due to its double-pore structure, which allows the teapot to "breathe." This enhances the flavor of tea over time, reduces bitterness, and retains heat exceptionally well. Unlike glass or porcelain, a Yixing teapot evolves with use, becoming more valuable and flavorful the more you brew with it.
Q: Do you provide certificates for the teapots?
A: Yes. Every teapot purchased from ZenLeaf Direct comes with a Certificate of Authenticity detailing the clay type, capacity, and the artist’s name. For pieces by renowned masters like Zhu Caifeng or Ding Yiqin, we also include photos of the artist with the pot or video verification where available.
Q: Which teapot should I choose for [Green Tea / Pu-erh / Oolong]?
A:
  • Pu-erh & Dark Oolong: Best suited for larger capacity pots (200ml+) with thicker walls to retain heat.
  • Green & White Tea: Prefer smaller pots (100-150ml) with thinner walls and lower firing temperatures to prevent "cooking" the delicate leaves.
  • Check our Teapot Selection Guide for detailed recommendations.

🚚 Shipping & Orders

Q: How do you ensure the teapots don’t break during shipping?
A: We take extreme care in packaging. Each teapot is wrapped in soft cloth, then bubble wrap, secured in a custom-cut foam insert, and placed inside a double-walled corrugated box marked "Fragile." We have a <1% damage rate, but if anything arrives broken, we replace it immediately free of charge.
Q: Do you ship internationally?
A: Yes, we ship worldwide. Shipping times vary by location (typically 5-15 business days). Please note that customers are responsible for any local customs duties or import taxes.
Q: How can I track my order?
A: Once your order ships, you will receive an email with a tracking number. You can also visit our Track Order page to check the status instantly.

🧼 Care & Maintenance

Q: How do I prepare (season) a new Yixing teapot?
A: Before first use, rinse the pot with warm water. Then, boil it gently in a pot of plain water for 30 minutes to remove any clay dust. Some users prefer boiling it with the type of tea they intend to brew (e.g., boil a Pu-erh pot with Pu-erh tea) to start the seasoning process. See our full Care Guide for step-by-step instructions.
Q: Can I use soap to clean my Yixing teapot?
A: No. Never use soap or detergent. Zisha clay is porous and will absorb the soap scent, ruining the flavor of future teas. Simply rinse with hot water after each use and let it air dry with the lid off.
Q: Should I dedicate one teapot to one type of tea?
A: It is highly recommended. Since the clay absorbs flavors, using one pot exclusively for one tea category (e.g., only for Raw Pu-erh or only for Tie Guan Yin) ensures pure flavor profiles and builds a better "patina" (bao jiang) over time.

💳 Returns & Payments

Q: What is your return policy?
A: We offer a 30-day return policy for unused items in original condition. Important: Once a Yixing teapot has been used with hot water or tea, it cannot be returned due to hygiene and absorption reasons. Please read our full Return Policy for details.
Q: Is my payment information secure?
A: Yes. We use industry-standard encryption (SSL) and trusted payment gateways (PayPal, Stripe, Apple Pay). We never store your credit card details on our servers.
